Training practice
Sunlight surgery is proud to be an approved training practice for both undergraduate and postgraduate doctors. All our GPs have a keen interest in training and education. We believe passionately in improving primary care in the UK through education and training new GPs. Junior doctors and GPs in training make up an increasing number of doctors in primary care nationally as well as here at Sunlight. They usually stay with us on placement 4-12 months.
You may see a doctor in their first few years following qualification or a GP in training at Sunlight. These doctors are well supported by qualified GPs in practice and are always able to get advice from a qualified GP if needed. Please don’t be alarmed if a training doctor asks for advice from a senior GP during your consultation, we are committed to providing the best clinical care possible to our patients.
You may see the following type of training doctor at Sunlight Group Practice:
Student Doctor. A student training to become a doctor before they have qualified. You will also be seen by a qualified GP if you see a student doctor. Student Doctors may also be referred to as Med Students.
Foundation doctors F1 and F2. These are qualified doctors that are in their first 2 years following qualification as a doctor. They have often worked as doctors in hospitals and A&E before coming to Sunlight. They can always access support from a qualified GP. Foundation Doctors may also be referred to as Junior Doctors.
GP Specialist Trainees, GP ST2 and ST3. These are doctors undergoing specialist training to become a GP. They are fully qualified doctors who have worked for several years in hospital specialties before starting specialist training to be a GP. GP ST1 doctors are in their first years of specialist GP training, GP ST2 are in year 2 and GP ST3 are in their final year of training to become a GP. They always have access to support from a fully qualified GP. GP ST Doctors may also be referred to as Junior Doctors or Registrars.
Student Nurses. The practice has Student Nurses on placement with us, they shadow our clinician’s consultations and may perform basic examinations.
GP net earnings
Sunlight Group Practice
2023/24
All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.
The average pay for GPs working at the surgery in the last financial year before tax and National Insurance was £79,502.This is for 17 part time GPs who worked in the practice for more than 6 months.
It should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the Practice and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice.
